Valentine Heart Trinket Dishes: A Two-Session Clay Workshop Give a gift from the heart! In this creative two-part workshop, kids will work with professional clay to craft two custom heart-shaped trinket dishes—one large and one small. These are perfect for holding jewelry, treasures, or giving as a special Valentine’s Day gift. Age appropriate for 3rd-8th grade. What to Expect: Session 1 (Jan 29): Creating. Using pre-rolled clay slabs, students will learn how to shape flat clay into a "dish" form. We’ll spend time customizing each piece with embellishments like clay flowers, stamps, and textures. Session 2 (Feb 5): Glazing. After the first kiln firing, students will return to "paint" their dishes with professional underglazes to add vibrant color and design. The Details: Ages: 8+ (No experience necessary) Price: $50 (Includes all materials and two kiln firings) Size: Strictly limited to 8 students for plenty of 1-on-1 guidance. Schedule: * Session 1 (Required): Jan 29 Session 2: Feb 5 (Note: If you can't make Session 2, you may finish your piece during any Open Lab after Feb 5). Pick-up: Finished pieces will be fired and ready for pick-up by Feb 12—just in time for Valentine’s Day! A Note on the Kiln: Pottery is a science! We will teach the kids the best techniques for attaching pieces and managing clay thickness. Because clay can be unpredictable, it’s important that students follow directions carefully to prevent pieces from breaking or "popping" in the kiln.
