Service Description

Calling all cat lovers! Join us for a week of whiskers, wonder, and bold creativity as we celebrate our favorite four-legged friends. This camp is designed for artists who love cats and enjoy exploring a wide variety of materials. From colorful, folk-art-inspired sculptures to modern textile weaving, your artist will spend the week in our "No Pressure Zone," finding their creative flow to a soundtrack of instrumental movie themes. The Weekly Project Lineup: "Laurel Burch" Inspired 3D Cats: Taking inspiration from the iconic, vibrant style of artist Laurel Burch, students will construct tall, skinny cat sculptures using advanced paper mache techniques. We’ll focus on sculptural engineering to keep them standing tall and finish them with bold, colorful patterns and expressive wire tails. "Summer Cat" Mixed Media Canvas: Our cats are heading to the pool! Artists will paint a "Cool Cat" lounging in a summer floatie from a bird’s-eye perspective. We will explore technical painting methods to create "crystalline" water textures and add high-fashion personality with custom-designed sunglasses. Cat Frame Weaving: In our textile segment, artists will engage with the tactile world of fiber arts using custom-designed weaving frames. Students will select their own yarn palettes and patterns to "weave" their cat’s coat, choosing between a "Kitten" or "Big Cat" design. The "Cushion" Project—Custom Cat Pins: For those moments when an artist needs a creative break or finishes a layer early, we’ll have a buffet of custom-cut wooden cat pins ready to be decorated with professional paint pens. The Art Lab Experience: At Art Lab, we believe the journey is just as important as the destination. We prioritize Student Choice and Depth Over Speed, ensuring every child leaves with a collection of work they are truly proud of. If a project gets tricky, we don’t "start over"—we pivot, teaching our artists that there are no mistakes in art, only new directions! Logistics & Safety: Dress for the Mess: We will be working with paper mache, acrylic paints, and permanent dyes. Please wear clothes that are ready for a splash of color! Stay Hydrated: Please send a labeled water bottle with your artist each day.
