Holiday Mixed Media Workshop: Christmas Village or Nativity (6 Weeks) Young artists will explore a variety of art techniques to build a rich, layered holiday scene. Students choose their theme on day one: a cozy Christmas village or a traditional nativity scene. Over five weeks, they will create custom elements using paper, paint, fabric, and clay, then bring everything together into a finished masterpiece during the final week. Each student works with texture, printmaking, painting, and sculpting, learning how different materials interact while making their own creative design choices. Weekly Schedule ⚬ Week 1: Acrylic Background Painting Students paint the top portion of their background with acrylics to create an atmospheric evening sky, glowing star, or winter backdrop. ⚬ Week 2: Gel Printing & Bleeding Tissue Artists pull vibrant prints with brayers and stencils, combining gel plate printing with bleeding tissue paper to design textured papers for the foreground ground layer, buildings, and foliage. ⚬ Week 3: Fabric Collage (Part 1 – Figures & Base Shapes) Students begin designing the people for their village or nativity scene, selecting and cutting patterned fabrics, felts, and trims to lay down the core body shapes and clothing. ⚬ Week 4: Fabric Collage (Part 2 – Details & Layering) Artists add layered textures, expressive clothing folds, hair, hats, and delicate fabric details to complete each character. ⚬ Week 5: Foam Clay Sculpting Using lightweight foam clay, students sculpt dimensional 3D accents—stable animals, sheep, wreaths, or village decorations—that air-dry to a soft, durable finish. ⚬ Week 6: Assembly & Final Details Artists bring all their components together, layering the papers, collaged fabric figures, and sculpted clay accents onto their painted background with final touches. All supplies included. Each student will take home a completed, ready-to-display mixed media scene.
