Service Description

3D Design & Printing for Kids (Ages 9+) Turn digital ideas into real, tangible objects. In this hands-on course, students learn the fundamentals of computer-aided design (CAD) using Tinkercad, a free, browser-based 3D modeling tool. Our focus is entirely on the art of 3D design. Because different 3D printers rely on distinct slicing software and mechanics, we handle all the slicing and printing for you. Every student designs their own unique creations, and we 3D print them to take home. Core Projects: ⚬ Custom Luggage Tag: Learn shape alignment, cutouts, and embossed/recessed lettering to create a durable, personalized bag tag. ⚬ Snowflake Ornament: Explore rotational symmetry, patterned duplication, and delicate structural connections. ⚬ Geometric Christmas Tree: Practice scaling, stacking, and angling primitive geometric solids to build a modern holiday display piece. (Note: If time permits, we may introduce a bonus build. Pacing varies by student; those who need extra time mastering mouse controls will focus on completing 2 solid designs.) Skills Covered: ⚬ Navigating and viewing objects across a 3D digital workspace ⚬ Manipulating primitive shapes, forms, and custom text ⚬ Essential CAD operations: grouping, cutting/holes, duplicating, aligning, and precise rotating ⚬ Designing within real-world structural constraints Device & Readiness Requirements: ⚬ Bring Your Own Device: A laptop (PC, Mac, or Chromebook) paired with a physical mouse is strongly preferred. Navigating 3D space and placing small elements requires precise cursor control that touchscreens and trackpads cannot easily match. ⚬ Tinkercad Account: Tinkercad is free. Setting up an account ahead of time allows students to design in class and continue refining their models at home during the week. ⚬ Readiness Check: Recommended for ages 9 and up. Please assess your child’s hand-eye coordination and comfort following step-by-step technical instructions. Readiness with mouse-driven 3D navigation varies significantly at this age.
