📚 Art & Literacy: Storybook Studio
early literacy and art
Service Description
Bring your favorite stories to life through the lens of STEAM! This class is designed to build early literacy and curiosity through hands-on sensory play. Each week, we dive into a high-quality picture book and use it as a map for a creative journey where science, art, and play collide. How the Lab Works Each session is built around one central story and one messy, marvelous activity. We don't just read the book; we step inside it to feel the textures, see the colors, and explore the world of the story through our hands. Examples of our weekly explorations: Sensory Science: Exploring "clouds" with shaving cream, mixing secondary colors with finger paint, or seeing how water moves through different materials. Playful Engineering: Building tall towers for characters using blocks or "loose parts," and discovering what makes them stay up (or fall down!). Story Math: Sorting colorful treasures, identifying shapes in the illustrations, and counting our way through the pages. The "Art Lab Way" Regardless of the week’s theme, we always focus on the process rather than a perfect final product. Every activity is an opportunity to practice the foundational skills needed for school success: Making Marks ✏️: Playing with different tools to build the hand-eye coordination for pre-writing. Hand Strength ✂️: Developing the "muscle" needed for scissors and glue through squishing, tearing, and cutting. Creative Choice 💡: Giving kids the freedom to pick their own colors and textures, fostering independence and confidence. Scaffolding for Every Stage Because there is a huge developmental range between ages 3 and 6, I tailor the experience for every child in the room: The Littlest Artists (Age 3) 🧸: We focus on the "Magic of Discovery"—the tactile sensation of the paint, the smell of the playdough, and the joy of the mess. The Big Kids (Age 5-6) 🌟: We add layers of "Why"—predicting what happens when we mix colors, practicing complex scissor paths, and telling more detailed stories through their art. The Art Lab Promise 📖 I choose books with beautiful illustrations and classic storytelling. Whether we are playing with sensory bins to match a theme or experimenting with a new art medium, I am working for you and your kids to have a rich, multi-sensory experience that makes learning feel like magic! ✨
