Art Lab Owensboro's invitation only robotics course is a dynamic and hands-on course designed to ignite the imagination and technical skills of young innovators. This course integrates the exciting world of robotics with the intuitive, visual Mindstorms programming. Students will embark on a journey where they build, program, and innovate, developing a deep understanding of both hardware and software. **Course Objectives:** - Develop problem-solving skills through hands-on projects. - Foster creativity by allowing students to design and build their own robots. - Encourage teamwork and collaboration in a supportive learning environment. - Cultivate a sense of accomplishment as students see their projects come to life. **Course Structure:** Each project in this course spans 3-4 weeks, providing ample time for thorough exploration and mastery of the concepts. The course is divided into two main phases: 1. **Project-Based Learning:** - **Weeks 1-3:** Students will engage in guided projects where they will: - Assemble robots using provided kits. - Program the robots to perform specific tasks using Lego Mindstorms - Learn key programming skills, such as loops, conditionals, and event handling. - Each project culminates in a demonstration and discussion session, where students showcase their robots and share their learning experiences. 2. **Independent Innovation:** In this phase, students will leverage their acquired skills to: - Design and build their unique robot, focusing on a specific programming skill or solving a particular problem. - Plan their project, including goal setting, design schematics, and coding strategies. - Execute their plan, iterating and improving their robot through testing and feedback. - Present their final projects in a showcase event, celebrating their creativity and technical prowess. **Key Topics Covered:** - Basics of Robotics and Hardware Components - Introduction to Scratch Programming - Building and Debugging Robots - Programming Concepts: Loops, Conditionals, Events - Problem-Solving and Project Planning - Design Thinking and Innovation
